Sea Shell Cake

by Mary R
(Jacksonville, FL)

My daughter requested a beach-themed cake for her birthday party. I made this cake using two 8 inch round cake pans, a boxed mix and frosting. I frosted between the two layers and the entire cake with a vanilla butter cream frosting. The cake itself was vanilla as well. To decorate, I bought sea shell candy molds and filled them with melted chocolate. I was sure to add different colors to each mold and then swirl with a toothpick to give a more realistic shell look. I dusted the chocolate shells with an edible shimmer powder. I sprinkled the cake with peanut butter cookie mix for sand (you could also use brown sugar or crushed vanilla wafers). You can also make white fondant pearls if desired.
